Eastern Illinois Flooding

What do you get when you melt 10 inches of snow in 24 hours, and then add another 5 inches of rain in the 36 hours following that? A lot of water that has nowhere to go. Coming home Tuesday night, the 5th I was greeted in returning to Sidney by rapidly moving waters across the main highway blocking my normal route home. I decided once I got home that I'd head out and try and shoot some video and photos of the waters and those who though it would be a good idea to drive through the raging rivers covering the roads.

All of the photos on this page were taken on Wednesday, February 6th in Urbana and Sidney Illinois.

This is Cunningham Avenue in Urbana around noon the day after the heavy rains. This area often gets some standing water, but I can't remember seeing it this deep before.

Looking straight north now down Cunningham Ave. I could tell from the standing debris that the level had actually gone down some before I arrived.

Don't think anyone will be disobeying that sign any time soon.

In Sidney now on the west end of town.

Looking east down the main street through Sidney. I actually forgot about this first area of flooding and though I could make it further into town but had to backtrack back west and then south around town. I was able to pass through this area 12 hours earlier but wasn't about to try that now.

Make it a super week! I'm sure everyone in this area is having a heck of a week.
