| This wasn't even a legitimate
chase. Some did chase, but being Easter Sunday and the low tornado
probabilities I chose to stick with family commitments down in
Champaign-Urbana. A line of severe and tornado warned storms did erupt
along the Mississippi River during the afternoon hours. I kept an eye
on the storms, with the plans of plotting my return to DeKalb to
intersect with the passing of these storms along Interstate 39. I
departed Urbana around 8 PM and began getting frequent lightning on the
western horizon. A previous tornado warned storm was now severe warned
and heading south of Bloomington. I pulled off the interstate and into
a truck stop in LeRoy and shot a few photos as the storm rolled in. The
storm itself was very lackluster, with pea sized hail and perhaps 35
mph wind gusts. |
