Not
a huge severe threat this day, but with crisp dry air in place I knew
any storms that formed ahead of an approaching upper level system would
be fairly photogenic. I had more or less written the day off by evening
as any storm that formed quickly vanished. However, while on a walk I
saw the base of a developing storm. I walked into a gas station to get
a drink and some chips that I'd been craving, and came back out and the
storm now was trying to form a wall cloud. I sprinted home and hopped
in the car and gave chase. The thing was just sitting 5 miles outside
of town, and was quickly growing into a beautiful minisupercell. I
stopped about 5 miles south of Sidney, IL and couldn't believe what a
pretty little storm I was watching.
I set up shop for a time lapse of the storm and snapped a few photos,
mostly just sitting back and watching the storm gracefully slide across
the open country to my south. Other storms forming to the west gave an
even more beautiful backdrop as the sun faded away on a little
impromptu one hour chase.
