Northern Missouri

I had a final exam this morning that was to end around 1:00 PM. While a hassle I could do without, this would still leave me with plenty of chasing time since the target was to be fairly local. Leaving Champaign I originally targeted SW Illinois ahead of an approaching MCV. However it appeared evident that this area would be far too clustery and outflow dominant, so in Springfield I continued west on Interstate 72. I met up with Colin Davis in Jacksonville, and then Caleb Lawrence and Garry Wellman in Quincy, IL. We plotted our course for the tornadic supercell that was on going near Kirksville, MO.

Missed most of the tornado show because we played it a safe distance from the HP supercell, thus had our view of the tornadoes obscured by tree lines. Waited back a good 10 miles waiting on the storm to come to us, but it was done producing large tornadoes and was an HP mess by the time it approached us. Colin and I wanted one more chance, so we dove north to look down the notch of the HP supercell. Were treated to a nice wall cloud sucking scud in from the precip core, which exhibited tight rotation and a few condensation vortices. However, no good tornado show for us. Afterwards, we were swallowed by the precip core near Canton, MO. Plotted my course for home, and was back down Interstate 72 towards Champaign.
