A powerful MCV was crossing the
Missouri and Illinois border during the afternoon. I had hoped for
supercell development in the high shear zone of the system, but the
2009 early season moisture problems killed that hope. Dew points
reaching only the lower 50's helped the cap prevail and I spent most of
the afternoon watching turkey towers go up and down, and then fade away
during sunset.
A few elevated storms were able to fire, and did go severe warned for
some time. I decided to take the long way home and take some distant
lightning shots.
I shot these photos at a newly developed windmill farm in southWEST
McLean County, IL. I emphasize south -west- to show that this is not
the already established huge windmill farm in southeastern McLean
County. I had no idea this one existed until I was driving around in
that area. I figured the crappy storms might be helped a little with a
more interesting foreground. I just love sitting out in these
wind farms.
